It can be performed together with the Pap test, in which case the check-up is considered even more reliable (the combination of the two tests is called a “double test or co-testing”) (Figure).
If either of these two tests comes up with suspect results, a colposcopy is recommended. The colposcopy identifies suspect areas and biopsies are taken.
