PCR is the most sensitive method for indentifying HPV. The initials stand for polymerase chain reaction. This test is able to detect even miniscule amounts of virus (10-300 DNA).
PCR is very sensitive and is not used as a screening test, like HPV test, because PCR may have false positive results – due to contamination of the sample.
